Pax Americana - American (New)

Have always wanted to check their food out since they opened. Heard a lot of great things. Started off with a fresca paloma cocktail (tequila, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and club soda) then off we went.

Delicious things to have:

  • Beef Tartare, pickles, horseradish, chervil, cultured cream, tonnato sauce, mesquite corn sourdough. Perfect way to start a meal, although not your typical beef tartare presentation. The horseradish and pickles were a nice surprise.
  • Brisket, Nine spice, potatoes, soured cream, black garlic, 1015 onions. Fall off the bone meat, lots of great flavor, the onions were a little overpowering at times.
  • Sanguinaccio fritters (fried dough balls with chocolate and pig’s blood filling), horchata ice cream, lemon curd, candied pecans. It sounds terrifying, but absolutely delicious.

Great experience. Interesting space and design choices. Will go again.

Zsa-Zsa Padilla
www.zsazsapadilla.com

A few years back, I found myself designing official websites for artists in the Philippines. I have done design work for the likes of Christian Bautista and Sarah Geronimo in the past. Now, I work closely with Sitti Navarro on her online PR efforts and still have my imprint on Zsa-Zsa Padilla’s website (which is due for a refresh). It’s been a lot of fun doing these, but they require a good amount of time commitment. These websites look polished on the outside, but there is always a team of creative and dedicated people that help make these websites happen. Ever since I started working on projects of this caliber, I gained a newfound appreciation for the dedication and hard work necessary to keep these websites up and running.

R&D Barbecuewww.rdbbq.com
I approached Ryan Cooper and Dale Ellington on their barbecue pop-up concept and offered to help them with the branding and marketing aspect of their venture. With the help of my friend Frances St. Cyr, we created a logo that was both clean and modern and have since implemented it on flyers, pop-up menus, and business cards. The website is in the works and will be up soon.

When I found out my friend Felipe Riccio, the man behind the MangiaMaccheroni pop-up kitchen concept, was flying out to Los Angeles to be part of the Eater Magazine 2014 Young Guns awards, I decided to extend my help to get him a website set up. We’re talking crazy quick turnarounds. My friend Frances St. Cyr and I dropped by Camerata at Paulie’s to meet with Felipe the night before his flight and ask him about his concept, and started drafting the website from there. 12 hours later, the site was up and running before he even landed in LA. All in perfect timing, I have to say.
